Our Elders

“Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which He bought with His own blood.” Acts 20:28

David Janney, Our Senior Pastor, also serves as an Elder. He and his wife Pam have been serving at PBC since 1995. They have three children: Joshua, Jonathan, and Suzy-Q. Dr. Janney was called into the ministry at 20 years of age. He has a B.S. degree in Bible and Piano Performance, a Masters of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling, and a Doctorate of Ministry. The things he enjoys most about ministry are preaching, prayer, and people. He is passionate about studying and teaching God’s Word and encouraging others to do the same. He also enjoys taking prayer walks and is committed to interceding for our congregation by name. He loves people of all ages—from little children to seasoned saints.

George Fletcher: Born and raised on the mission field, I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior when I was a young child. During my freshman year at boarding school I had a spiritual awakening where I realized my depravity and what it is that Jesus has done for me. Now married 21 years and father to four, I love God’s Word and how He speaks to us through all of scripture. “Take to heart all the words I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you—they are your life.” Deut. 32:46-47a My desire, as a PBC elder, is to serve the body with the gifts God has given me.

Larry Foster: Growing up in a Christian home, I trusted Jesus Christ at the age of 15, but did not truly understand about surrendering my life to Him until my late 20’s.  My wife Courtney and I have been married 22 years.  Before moving to Purcellville, we lived in Sterling VA and attended Faith Bible Church where we both served in the Music and Children’s Ministries.  I believe God called me to Purcellville Baptist first in membership and by actively serving Him on the Magnification Team, Men’s Ministry, World Missions Team and most recently the Deacon Board.  I’m blessed to be the father of 8 wonderful children: Justin 24, Geoff 20, Brad 18, Malaney 14, Ruby 11, Timothy 9, Nathan 2, and Liliana 8 months.  God has given me a passion to serve Him at PBC and to encourage others to do the same.  Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”

Chuck Haslet and his wife began attending PBC on February 22nd, 2004. He and his wife serve as Stephen Ministers. He has also been a member of the choir and has hosted the single mothers ministry in his home. He served as an elder at the New Covenant Christian Church of Reston for 3 years until he and his family moved to Purcellville. He also served as a deacon at North Phoenix Baptist Church in Phoenix, Arizona. At the Church at Northern Virginia, Fairfax, and at Cornerstone Chapel in Leesburg, he was a deacon from 1997 until 2004. He says he believes in God's calling and he wants to serve the Lord and His church the best way he can.

Paul Krumpe: I grew up in a Christian home, praying to receive Christ at the age of 4. My father was in full-time church ministry, and I was surrounded by many positive influences. In college, my wife, Jodie and I were drawn together by the communication to one another of our faiths in Christ and our passions for service and ministry.  We moved to Virginia from California in 1989, and have been in Purcellville and attending PBC with our 2 children, Garrett and Molly, since 2002. The focus of our ministry passion and activity has been primarily with youth, and we currently host a high school Bible study in our home.  I am humbled to have an opportunity to participate in the ministry at PBC in the role of elder, and I am excited to take part in and contribute to, in God’s strength, the church’s continued growth in maturity and outreach to our community and to the world.

Alan Partain became a Christian when he was 12. His family moved from NYC to Leesburg in the fall of 2001. They then began attending PBC. He attends the Men's Bible Study, serves as a Small Group Leader, and he is now a facilitator and teacher for the HizKidz ministry with the 3rd grade boys. He has worked in the Missions Field and has lead groups of volunteers to Zambia and Africa with Every Orphan's Hope for the past three years. He says he wants to model of "servant leadership" for his daughter Amelia Jane, his boys Trevor and Garret, and for every member of PBC.

Dave Updegrove and his wife Lynne began attending PBC in 1995. He has since been involved with various ministries such as home group leadership, the finance team, the building team, and the music program. Dave is excited to use his God-given gifts in service and as an offering to Him. He is humbled to work next to the pastors to provide guidance, feeding through The Word, nurturing and protection each member of PBC.

Paul Smith became a Christian in 1973. He and his wife, Pamela, first started attending PBC in the spring of 2004 shortly after they moved to the US from Scotland. Prior to moving to the US, Paul was a Deacon at his former church, Peebles Evangelical Church. Since he joined PBC, he has helped behind the scenes and was the Executive Administrator at the church office for over a year until February 2006. He is now responsible to coordinate the building project. He also shares the announcements each week at the end of the church services

PhotobucketGlenn Whittington and his wife, Lynn, started attending Purcellville Baptist Church after moving to Hamilton in 2004 and have been members since June, 2005. For the past three years Glenn has coordinated the English For Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) ministry while Lynn has served as a teacher in the ministry for the past five years.Glenn and Lynn also serve as Stephen Ministers. Glenn and Lynn have been married for 40 years and have three married daughters and four grandchildren. Prior to retirement in 2005, Glenn worked for the U.S. Department of Labor for 32 years.

Our Deacons

“Deacons…are to be men worthy of respect, sincere…they must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience.”
1 Timothy 3:8-9

The deacons catch God’s vision for ministry through the elders and develop ministry teams and Spirit-led strategies to accomplish it. They work alongside of the elders to make sure that no ministry opportunity falls through the cracks and no individual is overlooked. Their administration of ministry frees the elders to focus on prayer and the ministry of the Word.

Mike McHenry: grew up in Sterling Park Baptist Church and came to know the Lord as his personal Savior at the age of 15. “It was clear to me that accepting Jesus Christ as my personal Savior was the only way to secure my eternal destiny in heaven. God’s grace and gift of Salvation were absolutely free, all I had to do was accept that gift.” Mike has previously served at Christian Fellowship Church in Ashburn, VA as a Ministry Leader for the Singles Ministry, an Usher, Board Member and Trustee. After coming to PBC back in the summer of 2004, Mike has continued his service as teacher/leader for the Jr and now Sr High guys Sunday school classes, as an Usher and now as a member of the Deacon Body. Attending and serving along side Mike in various ministries are his wife Tammy, son Kyle and daughter Karlee, all of whom know and love the Lord as their personal savior. A guiding scripture for Mike and Tammy's lives is Proverbs 3: 5 – 6 ” Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Harry Redman accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord in 2001. Harry grew up in West Virginia where he met his wife Becky.  They are blessed with three children: Brock, Cole, and Merrill. Harry came to PBC in 2005.  He has a passion to serve, offering his time in the Helping Hands ministry, Guest ministry, and as a Home Group Leader.  Harry is fond of saying: “The Lord’s kingdom is the land of opportunity.  He sets the table with new adventures each day.  Our job is to live out those adventures according to His will.”  A favorite verse is 2 Corinthians 7:1, “Since we have these promises dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God
